The anti-TB drug thiacetazone causes serious, sometimes fatal, side effects in many HIV-positive patients. WHO is asking all countries with large HIV-infected populations to stop using thiacetazone and, instead, follow a strategy known as "Directly Observed Therapy, Short-course".
